If you’re planning an elopement, congratulations! This stage is so exciting, because you’re probably creating a vision that encompasses you and your partner’s dream elopement day. To assist couples like you in the planning process, I put together a list of 7 beautiful Upstate New York elopement locations! Keep reading to learn all about some of my favorite spots couples have said “I do.”
Keene Valley, NY // Upstate New York elopement locations
Keene Valley is by far one of the most beautiful upstate New York elopement locations, and for good reason. It’s located in the Adirondack Mountains and is home to the Tri-Lakes communities: Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, and Tupper Lake! Keene Valley is known as “The Home of the High Peaks”, which is fitting considering it has the highest number of high peaks in one region. You know what that means for you? If you want to plan an adventurous elopement here, you’ll have quite the views as you say “I do”.
Along with the epic views you can get from the grand peaks in Keene Valley, you also have some pretty cool post-elopement activity options! Why celebrate your elopement for a few hours when you can spend the whole day doing something you and your partner love? For example, there are both multi-day hiking trips like at Mount Marcy or shorter, easier hikes like at Giant Mountain. And if hiking isn’t adventurous enough for you, you can go rock climbing off of Route 73!
Eloping at the top of a mountain isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but don’t worry, because Keene Valley has some amazing waterfalls that would be perfect for your elopement. You have ones like Beer Walls Falls, a seasonal waterfall that’s best visited in the springtime. Or! Rock Garden Falls is said to resemble Japanese rock gardens, so who could say no to that? Wherever you choose to elope in Keene Valley, don’t forget to book your reservation at Snow Goose Bed & Breakfast to soak in all the town has to offer.
If you’re set on Keene Valley as your Upstate New York elopement location, you can get in touch with me here about photographing it for you!
Experience Outdoors // Upstate New York elopement locations
Okay, you might not think of Experience Outdoors being a good intimate wedding or elopement location, but let me put you on. Sarah + Mitch had their Upstate New York elopement here and the views were absolutely stunning! We rode an ATV 4 wheeler up the mountain to the summit, only to be met with the best views of the Adirondack Mountains.
And to top it all off, if you decide to elope at Experience Outdoors, you and your boo can take a post-elopement zipline tour! And if you’re really feeling wild and crazy, you can take advantage of the treetop Adventure Park in the Adirondack Mountain Forests. Don’t worry though; they also have something for those of you wanting to have a little less adventure during your elopement. Book your mountaintop yoga session to zen out before your ceremony.
If you’re like “Hell yeah I want my elopement here” then awesome! You can get in touch with me here to book your date.
Adirondack Park Trails
If you want to elope at one of New York’s top ski resorts, I’m right there with ya! Whiteface Mountain is about 13 miles from Lake Placid, and is home to the greatest vertical drop on the east coast. It has a total of 90 different trails and about 11 ski lifts, so you can only imagine how breathtaking it would be for your Upstate New York elopement. And if you and your spouse-to-be are a fan of skiing, you’ll be delighted to know that Whiteface Mountain is rated the best ski experience the east has to offer!
If you choose Whiteface Mountain as your Upstate New York elopement location, you’ll have so many things to do after your ceremony. If you’re in the mood for a little adrenaline rush, you and your boo can race each other on the Cliffside Coaster while learning all about the Olympic history of Lake Placid. Or if you want to keep the adrenaline to a minimum, you can take the Cloudsplitter Gondola to the top of Little Whiteface for a post-elopement picnic.
If you plan your elopement in the fall at Whiteface Mountain, you’ll experience the insane views of the Adirondack fall foliage. No matter what time of year you elope here, your elopement day (or weekend) can be as jam-packed or chill-paced as you want it to be. And don’t forget to book your reservations at Hotel Saranac, Mirror Lake Inn Resort, or Saranac Waterfront Lodge for the ultimate Whiteface Mountain experience.
Whiteface Mountain is amazing for those who prefer no hike, and amazing views. It has a back road that leads up the back of the mountain for easy access, and makes it possible to include a few more guests on your big day!
If you love Whiteface Mountain out of all these Upstate New York elopement locations, you can get in touch with me here about tagging along!
If you can believe it, Mount Marcy is the highest of High Peaks in the Adirondacks. In fact, it’s actually the tallest mountain in New York! Which automatically makes it an epic Upstate New York elopement location. If you choose to elope here, be sure to follow all of the Leave No Trace Principles, especially because Mount Marcy is home to some pretty fragile alpine vegetation.
The most popular route to the top is taking the Van Hoevenberg trail, which is around 7.4 miles. This hike is no easy feat though, so it’s only recommended for experienced hikers. When you get to the top, you can see 43 high peaks throughout the Adirondacks, which is absolutely insane. And on a clear day, you can see Mount Royal in Montreal!
If Mount Marcy is the elopement location for you, you can book me here to photograph your day.
Indian Head Trailhead
If you’re planning a sunrise or sunset elopement, this would be the perfect location for you. Indian Head is best visited between the months of April and October, but the fall time is really where the colors outdo themselves! The red and orange hues of the foliage are seriously out of this world. This is a 10.8 mile looped trail that’s dotted with the prettiest waterfalls all throughout! It overlooks the Lower Ausable Lake, which would be a fantastic backdrop for your elopement. And if you elope during wildflower season?? You definitely won’t regret it! Keep in mind that advance reservations are required in order to visit Indian Head.
